It's a pretty divey hole in the wall here but it's authentic I'll give them that. I went for a breakfast burrito which was huge and definitely filling but it took so long to get out that I probably would've eaten anything at that point. If you're looking for something quick I wouldn't really suggest this place and feel like there's way better options in the area. They got an extra star for putting lots of cheese in my breakfast burrito though.

I wish I liked this place a lot more than I do. 3 stars for food, cleanliness, and service. This place could be a lot better but I think it needs to go through a lot of change before then. Food: 3.5 stars Sometimes I do crave this place because it's fast and convenient. I stick to their beans, rice, cheese burrito with the salsa on the side. If you put the salsa in the burrito it will get super soggy and rip. I've had the taquitos before and they're not impressive. The meat is really dry and it will cut your throat as you swallow it. You can get a good deal on the food if you go on a Tuesday night for Taco Tuesday. I think their burritos are discounted. In my opinion, this place is way overpriced for the quality and quantity. On the plus side, their guac is REALLY good. Cleanliness: 2 stars This place could really use an updated look. It looks like a cafeteria they use in prison-based shows and it rarely looks clean in the front. I wouldn't want to see what the back looks like so I'll leave it at that. Service: 1 star Everyone is always so rude and so unwilling to help whenever I come in here. If you have a question about something, don't expect to get a helpful answer because they will literally look at you like you're stupid. Also keep a close-eye on them because they will make mistakes and over-charge you. Everything can add up here really quick and become pretty pricey so just keep that in mind when you come here.

Meh!! Never really noticed this restaurant. No one ever raved about it. Decided to try it because someone told me that it was good. Surprised to find that it was so big inside. Looked like a big production with all those workers in the back. I asked the indifferent girl at the counter whether I should get the beef or chicken fajitas burrito. NEVER trust an indifferent girl...she doesn't care. Against my better judgment...because I love beef so much, I got the chicken. The girl wasn't even going to give me any salsa until I asked for it. WHO does not eat salsa with Mexican food?? I really was excited to eat my burrito when I got home, but also excited of the prospect of having an awesome GO-TO Mexican place. When I go home, I took the contents out of the tortilla. I paid an extra $2 for guacamole, btw. It looked super good, but unfortunately...it wasn't. BLAND!! I tasted the chicken fajitas with a piece of tortilla...maybe I was missing something because the tortilla was missing. NOPE!!! IF something is good...each individual component will be DELICIOUS on it's own. Dissatisfied. The salsa didn't even have any flavor. :0(

Love this place I've been going here since I was pregnant because I had a mad craving for salsa and chips (my daughter is now 6) best salsa and guacamole around! I get the beef taquitos and my daughter gets them with chicken we not only love the food but they remember us every time we go in and always go out of their way to make us smile. If you're in the area try the enchiladas, taquitos, or ask them what's popular at the time they are always so helpful!

So rude. Over charged me then the cashier argued with me that I was wrong and wouldn't refund me the correct amount until someone else stepped in. I'm never returning.

Taco Tuesday!! Always fresh always fast!! The family pack is a really good deal. We will order that with a dozen mini bean and cheese burritos. Feeds everyone and so good!

The breakfast burritos here are super super delicious. The house made tortilla chips were also very tasty. I'm embarrassed to say we've been every Saturday morning since we moved nearby about a month ago.

  • C G.

Very disappointed. Nachos were made with cheese pumped out of a metal container. Chicken and shredded beef tasted the same with red sauce on both. Shells didn't seem authentic coming out of a bag instead of being made fresh. Really was hoping this place would be 5 stars but it wasn't. Room for improvement for sure.

I even posted the photo. I ordered a fish taco that was still raw in the center. DISGUSTED!!!!!! Check out the photo I posted. Omg. proof. . I'm calling tomorrow to get my money back. And the sad thing is several months before I became a bit sick after eating at this establishment and I assumed it was a 24 hour virus of sorts. So several months later I decided to give them another chance. MY MISTAKE!!!! Now I have no choice but to believe the people who work at this place and cook the food they serve to people either don't care.... Or they just don't know what they are doing. I've never posted a complaint like this but the food is horrible and in fact a health risk. I will be contacting the manager to express my concerns and ask for my money back. I threw my tacos straight into the trash receptacle after taking those photos and had to go get food again twice. APPALLED and DISGUSTED

I work off Alicia so naturally I've been looking for a Taco Tuesday close by and happily stumbled upon here. 1.50 tacos on taco tuesday. amazing. had the carne n pollo. vegetarian tamales cooked with no lard. amazing. I will definitely be coming back!

This is my go to spot when I crave Mexican food and don't want to cook. They food is messy, enchiladas have a lot of sauce and the price scale is a little higher than the food looks. But over all it is a great meal. I always get a bag of chips as well because they are really fresh and last for a couple weeks before they get stale. If you live in the area and need a good quick Mexican place this is it.

My friend raved about this place and took me there. Looked real promising. Looked like everything was made in house. Although we were the only ones there it took a lot longer than expected to get our order. Staff were fairly uninspired and got our order wrong. I got one carne asada taco and one carnitas. ($2.50ea) I base a lot on a place's carne asada and it failed me. No distinct flavor. Like the meat that comes out of a can of soup. Looks like beef, feels like beef, but that's about it. The carnitas taco was better, good actually. Good portion of pork and the beans were very good. In both cases, the beans shouldn't be better than the meat. Back to the order, we were the only ones there and the girl asks who ordered the four tacos? We looked around then looked at each other with "??" over our heads. My friends says our order was for two tacos and two burritos. She says, "Oh, yeah, that's what I meant." and gave us the to go order. Guess she figured we would be a few miles down the road before we discovered it was in fact, four tacos. For me, food was just meh, staff kind of blah.

Love love love this place. I'm never scared you try something new because it's always so good but I have a few favorite things on the menu. Number 1 is the fajita chicken burrito my favorite. Number 2 mini burritos I could probably eat 10 of these with the salsa fresca yummy. Also the green cheese swissa so good .. Still the best guacamole in town and there's salsa fresca is so yummy thinking about it makes me want some now.

  • Janel A.

The food here is great as is at every Los Golodrinas location. Can't go wrong. Great for catering. Love the mini breakfast burritos. Also love the flautas. Burritos are huge. Guacamole and salsa is the bomb. Chips are crunchy. The staff, well don't expect much they're just their to take your order and cook your food.

  • toni z.

The food is pretty good, however they seem to always mess up my order!! I work near by so I go like once a week. They started off pretty good, but lately it's been mistake after mistake. I think I'm done with this place. I will be finding a new Mexican restaurant to order from

    (1)
  • Julie S.

This place is pretty eh. To be honest I feel like I wasted my hunger coming here because theres so many better restaurants around the area. I recommend not making the same mistake I made and just going somewhere else. 2 stars for good prices and okay-ish food. Oh, and the fountain drink selection is pretty good but all of the drinks are super high in sugar.

    (2)
  • Kim M.

It's ok - the meat is poor quality so if you don't mind alot of fat in your mouth, it's probably delicious but I hate to bite into a big blob of fat & that is the way their chicken, pork & chorizo is.

    (3)
  • M G.

Don't get the nachos. Not good at all. The carne asada tasted old. The cheese was cheap nacho cheese not the melted real cheese (see pic). Disgusting. So gross, never eating there again. I want to throw up. def not good

  • david p.

Best Mexican food in Mission Viejo, hands down. All the food is great from the breakfast burritos to the classic bean and cheese burritos. The best of all would have to be the California Burrito, just add cheese because they don't for some strange reason.

    (5)
  • Martha G.

The Chile Verde tacos are excellent and big $3.20 . Chicken enchiladas are also excellent $3.15. Nachos are loaded. Will be back soon:)

When I walked into this place it looked like it would be a great Mexican food kitchen. The kitchen was big and they had refrigerators filled with mexican sodas and other beverages, also there was a rack for chips and an horchata machine. However when you look deeper into things you see a much different picture. 1. The bags of chips were broken up into little pieces. 2. Everything was so expensive. $2.99 for a tamale. 3. Even though my milanesa torta was not bad, the cook cut it in half on one of those cocktail waitress trays instead of a cutting board or stainless counter top. Oh well, my search for good mexican in the Mission Viejo area continues.

    (3)
  • Leah H.

Love their breakfast burritos with napalitos and the shredded beef nachos the most!! Been eating here for YEARS. Never disappointed. The friendliness kinda goes up and down but never ever rude.

  • Aaron C.

The mini bean and cheese burritos are addicting. Breakfast burritos are made fresh all day long. Bunuelos are good. Las G's "Big Cali" burrito is my favorite California burrito. Fresh house made tortillas are the best around. Buy a bag and take them home. To the other reviewers saying Las G is overpriced, I challenge you to find a similar style Mexican food place with the same quality ingredients as Las G for less money. If free chips and salsa is your gauge of a good Mexican restaurant, you may want to reevaluate your food choices. Ok, so it's not the cheapest around. You get what you pay for though. Go ahead and save a dollar on your burrito somewhere else. Nine times out of ten, you are settling for chewy, fatty, gristle-ridden meat, frozen cheese, and grocery store tortillas. For those of us who can taste the difference between fresh ingredients and Del Taco, there's Las G. For the record, I like inexpensive hole-in-the-wall Mexican places too, but they are not in the same league as Las G and shouldn't be compared, as some other reviews suggest. Ignore the career Taco Bell eaters and give Las G a try.

I LOVE their breakfast burritos! I get it with eggs, cheese, potato, and bacon. They also have excellent chips and salsa! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some quick mexican food. YUM!

  • Robi M.

My favorite Mexican food by far. When I work down in Mission Viejo, this is the place I go for lunch. Their taco Tuesday specials are great too. Not some flimsy little street tacos, but two tortillas stuffed full with meat and salsa.

  • Matt H.

I've eaten at all of their locations I've been coming here since the 80's this is the best Mexican food in south Orange County the people who give a bad review here are idiots who don't know what to order! Because everything I get is always very yummy!

Update for 2014....now that they have serious competition From Roberto's the staff here has to up their Game and actually be nice....I don't know if they can do it ...time will tell.

  • Lisa B.

Their chips and salsa are amazing. Perfect, huge sized bag for big parties! However, their food is hit or miss. Great bean and cheese burrito, but enchiladas are meh- and the plastic fork they give you to eat is a JOKE!! Really? I couldn't even cut my enchilada bite without breaking that tiny thing. They are also very pricey.

  • OC B.

The food is consistently very good. But this is perhaps the location I least visit just because it is small and staff are mediocre.

    (4)
  • David C.

I had high hopes that this would be our goto mexican food place.. most of the time they were dashed.. For a mexican food place that doesn't give chips/salsa/guac with any of their meals, but charges extra for it from a fridge.. their food isn't even that good. Combined that with the mediocre service and the fact that it takes waay to long for them to make anything and this place falls quick to a two star place for me. If you go here.. be warned that it may take you awhile to find whats good and whats not on their menu :/

  • Ryan A.

Taco Tuesday bargain! I only seem to come here when the tacos are around $1.25...go figure. Chile Verde tacos - my favorite. Huge chunks of pork in that tasty green sauce wrapped in 2 corn tortillas. Fish tacos - my last one here was gigantic, as if they tried to stuff the contents of 2 tacos into one. Eat this one first or else it will get soggy, unless you're into that thing. Fajita taco - nice grilled chicken with a slight bit of heat at the end. Carnitas - juicy meat Carne asada - meat is chopped up too small for my tastes and at times can be dry. Breakfast taco - served all day. :) Tortillas in the fridge are top notch. They come in 3 sizes and are usually fresh. Use them quickly or else risk mold developing.

Whenever I visit my parents in Orange County (I now live in LA) I always make a point to stop by and buy a couple bags of chips to bring home with me. It's also great that this location sells/serves Gringo Bandito hot sauce which I think is the best hot sauce around.

  • Loretta N.

Pros-Clean and organized establishment. Cons- Service is rushed and not very social with customers. They don't seem happy. Their pictures are not close to what you really get. Way over priced and Taco Mesa beats them hands down.

  • Justin B.

Horrible restaurant order the Nachos pay for every single topping enjoy your soggy nachos Chicken does not taste fresh like they dont clean their pans. Stingy with everything, They did not even offer salsa WTF I had to go ask at the end of my meal and they only gave me one. This place has nothing on Albertas. Service is not good.

  • Casie V.

Always good place if you're craving fast authentic Mexican good... The chips and salsa are my favorite and I love the Machacha burrito, really though everything here is pretty good. Although is is a but pricey for a fast food Mexican restaraunt

  • Ivan L.

This place is a joke. First off they are ridiculously overpriced. 1. If you order a meal, you should get FREE chips and salsa, that's the normal at any mexican restaurant. 2. Why would they only put guacamole on a rolled taco menu item. Most any mexican joint will put at least cheese and guacamole, some places do sour cream also. Then to charge $1.00 extra for sour cream, and extra for cheese? lame! 3. I tried to order 4 taquitos with cheese, they said they don't have 4 items, that I would have to order 6 taquitos, really? How hard is it to just add 1 taquito? To top it off when I got home, it only had cheese on 3 of the taquitos, the other 3 didn't have squat? Wow either terrible company, or terrible employee common sense. Las Galondrinas has okay tasting food, but their pricing, is terrible. Never eat their again, until they fix their prices.

Taacoo Tuesday! This is ok Mexican food. Seams a little off, just not authentic enough for me.

This restaurant serves food as tasteless as the surrounding area. If you're in the mood for bland or lost your taste buds to a slice of pizza back in '96, come to this place.

This place is a joke. I place my order for a breakfast burrito and a cup of coffee to go. I pay and put a dollar into the to tip cup. The no personality girl working the register turns in my order and starts to make cardboard boxes. My order comes and The no personality girl bags my burrito and hands it to me. When I ask for my coffee she says "Oh yeah" and starts to get stuff to make coffee. I ask her if she has to make my coffee and she said she did with a don't care attitude. Being pressed for time I just left. But glancing at the coffee station on my way out, maybe it's a good thing I left. The coffee station looked like a pack of dogs lifted their legs and peed on it. Filthy. So! Los Golondrinas! Show some concern toward all the negative comments on this site. We all can't be wrong. My visit was on 12/18/2013 at 8: 49 am.

We have ordered food here on several occasions, but I don't know if we will be back, the food quality continues to go down. Our recent order consisted of 2 chicken salsa quesadillas, an order of chicken taquitos, an order of carne asada nachos, a crispy beef taco, a mini bean burrito and an order of flautas. The quesadillas are way too greasy, even without the salsa and you need a ton of napkins. The taquitos are decent, but even though they give a decent amount of guacamole, the guac itself is watery and lacks some flavor. The nachos are just a nacho cheesy mess ... I actually saw them make it ... glad I didn't eat it. The beef taco was alright and the mini bean burrito is taco size, not worth $1.20 for about 3 bites. The flautas had potatoes in them, they were suppose to be beef not potato and beef. Just can't justify paying more ($33.68) for food that isn't that great. I guess we need a new fast food Mexican restaurant.

  • Cynthia M.

Nasty. Did not like the food. They were rude and prices were high based on the quality of food. Cheese tamale was gross. I had to throw the chicken taco away. Steak fajitas were alright. I was satisfied with my orange bang, lol

  • Laina A.

A thumbs down I'm sorry to say. I've been to this location numerous times over the years and found the food to have gotten worse unfortunately. I ordered flautas this time and they were not just filled with beef, but other items that I didnt' ask for and that the menu did not say was in them and didn't enjoy and wouldn't get again. The shredded beef crispy taco was poor quality. Their quesadillas are an oily-greasy mess! I don't know how anyone can eat them. The chips are only okay. They are bagged already, so perhaps they are made once a week. Their guacamole is watery, so I dont' know what they are putting in it that it is so loosey-goosey. I think I am done coming here as I'm never happy.

The nastiest mexican food I've ever tasted!!! We ordered our food to go but they gave us the wrong order, and we didnt notice it until we got home. How does the cook mistake a burrito and give us one taco!!?

Since 1984? So since 1984, you guys havent been using any spices or seasonings in your dishes? Ordered a machaca breakfast burrito (I'm a slave for good machaca), and i didnt like it, the burrito had no flavor just tastes like eggs and unflavored beef. I couldn't even get a taste of any salt, also who puts tomatoes in a machaca burrito and no salsa at least? My wife isn't even Mexican and she can make a way better machaca burrito, but this is also because she slow cooks the meat In crock pot over night WITH SEASONINGS AND SPICES and adds salt and pepper to taste. Maybe my wife should open up a Mexican restaurant if food with flavor or in other words no flavor, like this has been going out for almost 30 years. No offense guys but step it up, for me and many others if the restaurant doesn't live up from the first taste chances are they're not coming back. In case your wondering I tossed my burrito and went to subway.

When I was younger (college aged) I used to eat at the location on Greenfield every day that I worked. LOVED their food. Now that I work in Irvine, my work loves to get breakfast from this location sometimes... for our Friday breakfasts. We do the mini breakfast burritos. First time I placed the order, I didnt realize they really are mini, and I ordered WAY less than I needed. Im a pro now - and go with 5 dozen, and some chips. They are delicious.... my favorite is the egg and chorizo but all are yummy. The chips are amazing too!

So so Mexican food and way way over priced. Just took my eight year old son there for dinner and ordered one bean and cheese burrito plate with beans and rice $7, two tacos $6 and two drinks $4. All of this came to a total of $18 and change. Expensive Mexican food makes as much sense as cheap sushi...... It doesn't!!! For that price there better be an ocean view, chips and salsa along with sit down table service, there was none of the above. Next time I will gladly save myself $15 and eat at Del Taco. Sorry for the poor review....

This has positively gotta be the absolute WORST Mexican food I've ever had in my entire life -- which is saying something because I've had some pretty bad Mexican food before. I got 2 tacos -- carne asada and fish -- it took them forever to get my order ready even though there wasn't anyone there. When I got my order, I opened it up and the carne asada taco was soggy. The meat was sitting in a pool of liquid. I took a bite.... gawd awful. No taste, like someone forgot to season the meat and it was very tough and chewy.... jaw breakingly so! I asked for spicy salsa, they gave me some which I doused onto the taco, but you know what? It did absolutely NOTHING to help. I left it, and moved onto my fish taco. I must say, I've never had a fish taco that was so disgusting. The fish was obviously frozen and not thawed properly. I bit into the taco and liquid came out of the fried fish. Once again, there was absolutely NO taste -- even with the sauce. I just don't understand it. The tacos were $2.50 each which is extremely expensive for tasteless, bland, soggy tacos. Even though I was starving I just couldn't bring myself to finish the tacos -- they were THAT bad!

When I had my first grown up job, and I could go to lunch anywhere I wanted because it was my money I was using to pay for it...I would go to Los Golondrinas a majority of the time. This was 15 yrs ago in San Juan Capistrano..so you can imagine my excited when I learned that they opened a new location in Mission Viejo.... I love that there tortilla's are so fresh, they make them on site daily, along with there chips, salsa and guacamole. Most of the time I get the Big Dave. It is made with 2 flour tortillas, choice of meat, plus salsa, beans, rice, cheese, cilantro and tomato. I always get the carne asada...I like the fact that it chopped in small cubes and cooked, so it gets a goodness on every bite. Most people seem to like the carnitas the best. I have also had the Chile Rellano burrito...It has a whole chile rellano, stuffed in a burrito with beans and cheee...It is so good. I could use a little salsa in it, but other then that very good. Another good menu item is the Carnitas Quesadilla. There carnitas is so tender and moist. It was probably the best quesadilla I have ever had. The tortilla was cooked perfect to a golden color, so you could actually pick it up and eat it without it folding over. Very Very good. There guacamole is very good...it has chunks of avacado, onion, cilantro. It is on the spicy side. The prices for the burritos I find very good, but once you add a side of guacamole, chuos and salsa, it can start to add up. But, it is a great fast food type place, with better quality food. I feel Los Golondrinas is far better food then Taco Mesa which is also located in Mission Viejo. They do however need to work on service with a smile....

Basically I get one of two items everytime I go. Big Dave Burrito with Carne Asada Big Cali Burrito, add Cheese Both are amazing and fill you up for about 6-7 bucks. I also usually pick up a bag of chips and some of their salsa, it's pretty dang good.

I have only been here once, but my co-worker brings in breakfast burritos and hard shell tacos to the office every Friday morning. One more reason to look forward to Friday's as I love this place. It's hard to say whether the burritos or tacos are better, so I just eat both. My favorite burrito is bacon and Carne with Egg and cheese. The Chirizo is also very good. The beef and potato tacos are absolutely delicious. I went once for lunch and had Carne with rice and beans. It was also really good. The prices are also very reasonable. I highly recommend this place.

Food is mediocre but after ordering $30.00 in food I am told I'm only allowed 2 tiny containers of salsa but I can buy more for $4.00 - what a piss-poor way to run a business. Most any Mexican restaurant has a free salsa bar...just increase all your prices by 25 cents and stop insulting people. I will not be back...the poor kid behind the counter said she hears it all the time......I hope someone starts listening

Best Mexican Food in the area (and thats impressive if you are familiar with orange county, CA...). Their Breakfast Burriots are bomb and their shredded beef tacos make you happy. Guac is delicious. This is a show up, place a normal order (not some lame uppity starbucks 45 second to name all the garbage you want in your coffee drink order), then go sit down and wait, then eat, smile and leave. If you walk in expecting to be treated like a 5 star hotel, you are probably too stoned to be in public. This food is delicious. It is a Mexican take out joint. Enjoy it for what it is!

For visit #3 they still could not get my order.. My sister called in an ordered 2 burritos and 1 Taco Salad, dry( and she also said meaning NO SALSA) the employee, repeated the order and gave us a number. 15 minutes later we arrive and pay (to-go). We waited another 10 minutes to get our food and on our way out I noticed that there was Salsa just in the top if my salad. So I told the employee, I had asked for the Salad with no Salsa, and he then replies with a irritated shrug, then stating ," what! did you want another one." (With no genuine feeling) . I ended up just keeping due to not having another 10 minutes to spare for them to make another one. End result: I ate about 5 bites, and ended up throwing it out( there was so much salsa that it drenched the whole salad as well as made the taco shell soggy. I typically love this restaurant but this particular location lacks customer service as well as getting orders right, I unfortunately will not be back.

I went in today to try this place. I ordered a chili verde burrito since it turned out my choice of meats was limited, with none of my beloved al pastor pork available. The burrito was on the small side, with no chopped onions to add texture. It was sopping wet with runny beans. Finally, I didn't see any type of salsa bar nor was I offered any salsa to go with it. Overall, a very disappointing burrito. In an area where there are many small but fantastic Mexican places serving all the different meats and making amazing burritos, I see no need for a place like this.

This is based on my one and only lunch visit I made today. Based on previous Yelp reviews I went it with lowered expectations. I was going to go to Jack in the Box but the temptation of a big ole fashioned lunch burrito was too much. I was going to keep it simply and go with a BRC but seeing the Chicken Mole and rice was only a few cents more I rolled with it. As others have mentioned...no salsa bar and packets of tapatio made me raise an eye but as they brought my burrito I asked for salsa and the guy at the counter asked mild or hot....I went with Hot. So I bust open the burrito and it was fantastic....hadnt had mole in a long time so that may have been a factor in the good review but the chicken was tender with large chucks and the mole was sweet and savory. Adding some of the hot salsa I was impressed with the chili flavor that emanated from the sauce. It was a smooth sauce...no tomato chunks at all but the interplay from the sauce and mole was wonderful. Once again....maybe the beauty of lowered expectations but for 5 bucks was a very good burrito. May order again or try one of the other much ballyhooed suggestions.

Just recently discovered this small place near our house and glad I did. You can never get enough of good Mexican food. Food: I had the big Dave burrito with carne asada, which was filled with meat, rice, cheese and pico de gallo. The burrito was huge and even wrapped in two homemade flour tortillas. The quality of the carne asada was pretty standard, definitely nothing spectacular, but was cut into tiny pieces, which made it easier to digest but the meat was a little skimpy. It's a decent bargain: big burrito for $6 bucks. This spot doesn't have any ambiance, so it's probably best to get the food to go.

Las Golondrinas is really good if you know what to order. So here are the best things on the menu: *Breakfast Burritos: served all day My favorite is with potato, cheese and salsa fresca(their version of pico di gallo, its really mild). The Machaca burrito is really good too. *Burrito: Rice, bean cheese and salsa *Big Dave Burrito w/shredded beef *Quesadilla with chicken, cheese and salsa Not all their tacos are created equal: try these ones *Carnitas *Chicken fajita(stay away from the beef fajita it is not good I assure you) *Both the shredded beef and chicken are good. They are served in a hard shell with lettuce cheese and tomato. *Breakfast taco with potato, cheese and salsa fresca *Tamales!! My two favorites are the pork and rajas(three bell peppers and a mild white cheese). Be careful if you want nachos. If you just order them they are served with nacho cheese (I am not a fan). However they will put regular cheese on them for an extra fee (it comes out to around $8 total with meat, salsa, beans and regular cheese, kind of expensive but quite delicious).

I work nearby so I thought I'd give it a try. The prices were higher than other similar places. I ordered a burrito because I heard good things about them. I was a bit taken that I had to pay extra for salsa or any changes in how it's made unless I'm having something left off. The burrito was $7.53 after tax and that was without a drink. There's no salsa bar and there was no place to sit (lunchtime). I took my order back to the office to eat. I found the ingredients to be oddly bland for Mexican food. The beans were too firm and the meat was way too hard and chewy. I am NOT going back.

Actually, one star is even too kind. This place was the absolute WORST Mexican food restaurant we've been to since moving back to California. It's actually worse than the worst Tex-Mex crap we used to get in Houston, Texas. We went for Taco Tuesday and the fried taco shells were like Taco Bell's and were not like those of a genuinely authentic Mexican restaurant. The chicken in the tacos was drenched in some kind of nasty red sauce, but in spite of this, it was evident that the chicken was raw/undercooked ... even my 10 year old son knew enough to say that the chicken was raw because it was rubbery. The tortilla chips and salsa that we had to pay for were also disappointing. We will never go back to this joke of a restaurant. We're in complete amazement at how crowded this place was!

this is my spot when i want to get tamales for xmas. it used to be a secret but i think everyone knows about it now so get them early. as far as their everyday food...it is pretty good. i usually get the asada burrito and it is tasty. i think they are a good size as well. ask for their salsa verde on the side and you can't go wrong

We ordered for our office. There were 8 orders in all. We called ahead to make sure that they had plenty of time and we also made sure to let them know that each order was on a seperate check! The guy who took our order had major attitude and was supposidly the Manager! Wow, what horrible customer service! Then when my co worker went to get the food, in the middle of us paying, he asked if he could help the people behind us first! LIke, hello?? DIdn't we call ahead for a reason? They were so rude and we won't be back! Avilas El Ranchito it is from now on! They are on muirlands and ridge route! 1000000000 times better then this hell hole!

So, I stopped in this past week to see what all the hype was about. I'm always open to new territory, and this would be a welcome spot in the neighborhood. However... I do not think Las Golodrinas delivered the best bargain for the fairly high price. I can honestly say: "I have had better." And the staff were as friendly as the Addams family at a block party. I ordered a pollo blanco burrito, an order of taquitos with quacamole, and a carnitas taco. The burrito was average - nothing great, just palattable. The taquitos (3 per order) were smaller (shorter) than most, and the quacamole was terribly weak and gluey (actually tasted more like cilantro paste with onion than avacado). The carnitas meat was over boiled, and cut with long strands; which meant it was pretty bland. It's pretty bad when the majority of the flavor is coming from cilantro. I'm not upset to have visited here (and dined out). I now know not to return.

Never saw this place until I was really looking for some place new to eat. I had the carnitas meal for $6.90, with a self-serve drink it came to $9.41. Cheap and a lot of food. I had three corn tortillas, and it came with rice and beans. The tortillas were hot, and fresh and good. Large portions of the carnitas was dry. The rice was very bland, and the beans were tasteless. There was a little splash of a green sauce in one corner of the styrofoam container. This place has NO salsa bar. They have no sauces, not even bottled sauces, except for small, lidded, plastic cups of those yellow peppers. The dry carnitas was screaming for sauce or salsa, anything! There are two tables of four outside the front door. There are 6 deuces inside to sit down and eat, but do not. They are located right next to the single uni-sex bathroom, and when that door swings open you get a grand view of whose inside. LOL Glad the dude went number one only. (gag!) The place is a weird lay-out. The kitchen is immense. They are a tortilleria so they sell packages of tortilla chips. The employees therefore have a factory worker mentality and are not customer oriented. They look down, no eye-contact, no thank yous, etc. I wanted to eat it there, but the dead-faced woman just bagged it for me. When I said it was for here, she didn't look up, and yanked it out of the bag and threw it on a tray in a clumsy array. I looked at the empty tip jar, and decided to keep it empty. Unlike the Terminator, I won't be back. LOL

this place used to be really good but lately it hasnt. i went there today and the taco they gave me was completely soaked wet from either salsa or the juices they keep the meat it in, it was absolutely disgusting and unedible. the staff was also just laughing behind the counter the whole time and even forgot to give me my drink cups that i ordered. the nachos we got had chunks of meat on them that looked almost grey it was not of good quality. really disappointed. i would advise to go SOMEWHERE ELSE because it was a waste of money .

You cannot go wrong with the Chips and Guac/Salsa. The Flan is okay too. That is all. :)

This place is great! Best tamales around. Both veggie and the pork tamales are incredible. Wet or dry, they can't be beat. Excellent chips, too. You might want to call if you're going in on a Sunday evening. They seem to keep changing their hours.

I've been eating at Las Golondrinas for years, WAAAAY before the one in MV opened. Lately though the only reason I have to come here is the breakfast burrito which is ALWAYS spot on (2 eggs, cheese, potatoes extra hot sauce) or to pick up a bag of tamales with chips and salsa. The burritos are decent though I usually stick with the vegetarian one. I'm not a huge fan of the boiled beans and usually half way through the burrito it's a soggy mess, even it it's double wrapped. No atmosphere, not the friendliest of staff so you're probably better off grabbing it to go. Also the fish isn't that good, there's a Baja Fresh and a Rubios literally a stone's throw away so go there if you're looking for a decent mahi-mahi taco. Never under any circumstances order nachos unless you have an affinity for bland, gas station style nachos with disgusting cheese sauce. For Fans Of: hangover curing breakfast burritos, soggy burritos, cold shoulders and excellent guac.

I've been eating Las Golondrinas for as long as I can remember. It's my favorite little special Mexican food place and home to what may very well be the best salsa in the world. I don't know if I've ever eaten AT the restaurant (same goes for the San Clemente location), but it is a great place if you want to pick up lunch or dinner for your family/friends. When I was a little girl my parents would pick up a family pack (around $30, serves 4: rice, beans, taquitos, tamales, meat, tortillas) and some chips, salsa, and guacamole for dinner or a lunch picnic, and my brother and I would inhale the taquitos so fast we burst into flames. Almost. Now my little brother is a recent high school grad (*tear*). I suggested we pick up a bunch of Las Golondrinas for his grad party and of course everybody started drooling on their shirts while they eagerly approved of my totally awesome suggestion. Nobody says no to Las Golondrinas.

So I am craving a breakfast burrito on a nice Sunday morning and happen to be in Mission Viejo. Las Golondrinas seemed like a good match. I was so excited to get a delicious-looking burrito in a town I am not that familiar with. My dreams crashed when we sat down at a table in the corner. Something caught my eye... it turned out to be nothing less than a ROACH. Upside-down, appearing to be killed by some sort of chemical, this roach started to twitch and it was simply too much. I asked for my money back and left, explaining there was a roach at my table. The cashier did not even apologize and did not seem surprised in the least but was cooperative with giving me a swift refund. Needless to say I do not intend to go back. I hope next time they sweep up the dead roach bodies before opening for business so they don't cause more incidents like this in the future.

It was the Best of times, it was the worst of times. This place being less than a mile from my work, i came on my little 30 min lunch hoping for good carne asada. What i founf was a tortilla full of wet beef jerky bits and would not go back. To my surprise i ordered Fish tacos and chicken thinking it was from a different shop and it was delicious. So i look at that place as a specialty shop for fish an pollo.

Las Golondrinas is the best Mexican food in Southern California!! I've been eating there for over a decade, and I still haven't tried everything on the menu! There is so much goodness, I keep rotating between a few favorites: * Fish Tacos are fantastic. If you're really hungry, Fish Burrito is double the pleasure, double the fun. * Bean and Cheese burrito, double-wrapped! Great with chips and salsa and some of the Gringo Bandito hot sauce that they sell in the shop. * 2 Egg Burrito with potato and cheese, no salsa, is orgasmic with ketchup. * Horchada fountain drink, you'd be surprised at how good it is. Nice, subtle, sweet flavor. * Everything is delicious, just work your way around the menu. It's a small chain of five shops, all family-run, all awesome. Three of them are located near beaches, and it's the perfect place to go after an early morning surf session. Remember kids, Burrito = Love.

I've been here twice. It sucked both times. I honestly would rather go eat at Del Taco than here. At least at Del Taco I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off. Do yourself a favor and don't come here.

great little mexican restaurant. i usually order the 'super dave' burrito and it's huge! filled with carne asada, rice, beans, cheese and salsa. it's super filling and i can barely make a dent in it. not really a place meant for a sit down meal. there are a few tables but i mostly just call in and pick up my food. $6 for the burrito.

This is place is terrible with service. I only go here is I'm needing place to stop on my way home. Expect to wait a ridiculous amount of time. I waited almost 20 minutes for 2 breakfast tacos, and a cheese quesadilla. There were 4 people in the back making and bagging chips, but one woman preparing the ordered food. I was one of three people in the place and ordered before the other two. Im still questioning what it was in my potato, bacon breakfast taco or if it was the cheese melting for the quesadilla that took 20 minutes to prepare. If you have the time to sit and wait, the food is mediocre. I recommend going to a mexican restaurant to receive the free chips and salsa while waiting for your food. This is not my first time here, and every time I leave I feel the same. My last resort for "quick" mexican food will now have to take me off my beaten path to find a place with better service and food! -first time ever writing a review. (thats how irritated I am)

I have not had everything on the menu here but I like a lot of the items I have ordered. I am not as much a fan of their fish tacos but their fish burrito was really good. The big Dave is great! I have not had a single bad breakfast burrito here and sometimes get one for dinner. Tortillas and chips are made on site. They stock up the fridge with Guacamole and salsa each morning. They are famous for their high quality tamale's. If you are looking to be dazzled with smiling faces and personality this is not the place for you. It just has very good food that is good on the go. The secret weapon here is party platters (appetizers) on the go. If you host a party with tons of their mini bean and cheese burritos and taquitos along with plenty of guac and salsa you will be a lot of peoples hero. Their mini bean and cheese burritos are insanely addictive and I have no idea why the mini ones taste better than the full sized. Needless to say the first time I catered a party with them I had to go back 2 hours later to reload. Now when I host a party everyone asks me if I will have the mini burritos. I have provided more upscale and expensive appetizers at parties but nothing has ever been as popular as these.

Love love love the Carnitas here! Not a great sit-down place to eat but FABULOUS to bring home on your way home from work!

This place was gross. I went there with three of my friends, as I had remembered the name from Yelp. I took one bite of my burrito and couldnt eat the rest. It had NO FLAVOR at all. Both of my friends found thier meal, taquitos and taco salad tasteless. I went to Taco Mesa a few days ago and it was way way better, located at Los alisos and trabuco. In addition, the people working there had no personality whatsoever and the place was very dingy and unattractive. The food was not worth anything to me. The quesedilla I got for my daughter was good, but that was it. WOW, what a disappointment. I called the San Juan restaurant, and they said that there have been complaints that some of the restaurants have different tasting food. Also, they were very skimpy, you pay more for cheese on a veggie burrito, give me a break. NEVER AGAIN.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
